Sea Caves Sunset Paddle

DAY TRIPS

Embark on a captivating sunset paddle from Meyers Beach to explore the renowned sea caves of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. This guided kayaking excursion offers a unique opportunity to navigate through intricate sandstone formations, including sea arches, caves, and secret passages, all illuminated by the warm hues of the setting sun.

The journey begins with a one-mile paddle from Meyers Beach to the first cave, making it accessible for both novice and experienced kayakers.  This serene time of day often brings calmer lake conditions, enhancing the paddling experience.

Whether you're seeking a peaceful evening on the water or an opportunity to witness the stunning geological formations up close, the sea caves sunset paddle from Meyers Beach promises an experience that combines adventure and natural beauty.  After spending time in the caves, a nice beach supper will be served!

Typically Tandem Kayaks are used as they tend to be more stable and a bit faster.  Solo kayaks are an option, however, you’ll need to discuss this with your guide ahead of time.

  • What do I wear?
Typically we will wear wetsuits so shorts, tights, swimsuit or something similar is best. Bring a layer as it can sometimes be cooler on the water. Bring a dry bag or ziplock bag if you plan to bring a phone for photos.
  • Where do we go?
On half day trips we will be paddling the "Mainland Sea Caves" area in the park. This four mile out and back shoreline paddle launches and lands at Meyers Beach.
  • Do you allow dogs?
Sorry, due to limited space in the kayaks we are unable to allow dogs.
  • What about bad weather?
If we are not able to go out due to weather or if you do not think it would be a good experience (due to rain, cold, etc.) you have the option to either reschedule or have a full refund. Lake Superior is notorious for it's quickly changing weather conditions, forecasts often change dramaticaly up until your trip departure. We will do everything we can to get you out on the water safely! We ask for flexibilty in situations where weather and other events are out of our control.
  • Is there an age or weight limit?
We ask that paddlers are at least 100 lbs and/or 12 years old. In our experience it starts to become difficult to accommodate at about 270 lbs or above as it is hard to maintain stability and balance in the kayak but contact us for more information or body types.
