Frequently Asked Questions
Typically we will wear wetsuits so shorts, tights, swimsuit or something similar is best. Bring a layer as it can sometimes be cooler on the water. Bring a dry bag or ziplock bag if you plan to bring a phone for photos.
On Sand Island trips we will be launching from "Little Sand Bay" and making the crossing to Sand Island. This is an approximately 6-8 mile paddle total.
Sorry, due to limited space in the kayaks we are unable to allow dogs.
We ask that paddlers are at least 100 lbs and/or 12 years old.
In our experience it starts to become difficult to accommodate at about 250 lbs or above as it is hard to maintain stability and balance in the kayak but contact us for more information or body types.
When choosing an outfitter, look for one that is authorized to operate in the National Park and uses ACA certified guides. National Park Service authorized outfitters are vetted for safety, environmental practices and professionalism. ACA certified guides have formal training in paddling skills, rescue techniques and decision-making on the water. Together, these two standards go a long way in ensuring a safe, high-quality kayaking experience.
