Kayak the Sea Caves
Ok so we admit, we may be a bit biased but the Sea Caves are the crown jewel of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and are truly worth a visit. They can be seen from above on a hiking trail called the Meyers Beach Trail that starts from the Meyers Beach parking lot or by kayak.
There are a number of outfitters who will take you out for an experience that will be the highlight of your trip. Trips can range from a few hours to multiple day excursions that will take you from island to island, trips start at $70.
Mountain Biking at Mt. Ashwabay
There has been a tremendous amount of
work put into the Mt Ashwabay mountain bike trails in recent years that have resulted in some of the best single track trails that Wisconsin has to offer. Challenging climbs and exhilarating descents paired with panoramic views of Lake Superior and make this trail system worth the visit.
If you don't want to bring your bike or would like to rent one you can rent mountain bikes by the day at the local bike shop. Rates start at $25 per day.
Stay in a Yurt
This yurt was built in 2016 and is maintained by Bayfield County. It offers direct access to the trails above as well as spectacular views of Lake Superior and the surrounding landscape to unwind with at the end of the day.
Book early though as it is often occupied during the summer. Rates start at $65 per night.
Take a Lighthouse Tour
If kayaking isn't your cup of tea board a boat with Apostle Island Cruises for a 55 mile tour of all that the park has to offer.
This trip will take most of the day and will take you on a whirlwind tour of the many lighthouses and natural sights in the park across the 22 islands.
Cruises start at $42 for a day long tour.
